Hamburg’s fine Kümmel (caraway-based eau de vie)
The finest caraway seeds and purest grain alcohol of the top quality grade “extra fine” go into the production of Helbing Hamburg’s fine Kümmel, a caraway-based eau de vie. Helbing, “the original”, has been produced in Hamburg since the company was established in 1836. The inventor of the elaborate formula for this fine Kümmel was the then 29-year-old Johann Peter Heinrich Helbing, the son of an old established family of distillers. By the turn of the twentieth century, the small distillery employing five workers had developed into Germany’s biggest producer of spirits. After an eventful history, the company Heinrich Helbing GmbH was taken over in 1975 by Borco-Marken-Import. Helbing Hamburg’s fine Kümmel is still produced today as it was 160 years ago according to the secret recipe handed down from generation to generation and still carefully guarded by the owner family today.
Helbing Hamburg’s fine Kümmel (35% vol.) has a distinctive, full, rounded flavour and delicate bouquet. It comes in 0.7 l and 1.0 l bottles. Helbing tastes best served ice-cold in iced glasses with a tall stem.
HELBING is "the original" and Hamburg’s "favourite kümmel".
