Cognac / Armagnac / Brandy
Its impossible to imagine a bar without Cachaça. Caipirinha has been Germany’s most popular cocktail for almost two decades.
The beginning of Brazil’s history as a state in the early 16th century also marked the point in history at which Cachaça was born. Sugar cane was being cultivated even back then, but originally only in order to obtain sugar. It was later discovered that a fine schnapps could be distilled from the fermented sugar cane juice. Cachaça – also known as Aquardente de Cana in the local language – was from that point on Brazil’s national drink.
In contrast to rum, which is made from sugar cane molasses, the distillate for premium Cachaça comes 100% from fresh sugar cane juice. Caipirinha is the most famous and most popular drink made from sugar cane, and has been Germany’s most popular cocktail for many years. Cachaça is also used for mixing the typically Brazilian Batidas. Depending on the flavour, this is made by mixing fresh tropical juices or fruits, or these fruits are puréed and mixed with plenty of ice.
